Test your skills at casting with a fly rod  at our specially designed obstacle course. There are five events that challenge accuracy and one for distance. You can choose to compete as a beginner, intermediate or advanced caster.

The course will be held at Cotter's Big Spring Park baseball field.
The event begins at 1:00 p.m. and will end when all have competed.

The course events will be:

Accuracy
  1. Three rings set at distances, 20 ft to 50 ft. - two attempts.

  2. Over/Under/Through at 30 ft - two attempts at each
Cast over and hit target beyond loop, cast through loop, cast under loop and hit a target.

  3. Curve cast approximately 40 feet - two attempts at each side
Hit target from both left and right sides of obstacle (representing a tree).

  4. Back cast target, 30 feet - two tries
    Hit target with back cast.

  5. Offset Accuracy - 20, 30, 40 ft. - two attempts.
Goal is to hit the three targets in succession.  No touching the ground between casts. Unlimited false casts.

Distance
  1. Distance Cast Combo
    No warm up with rod
    Max distance in three casts
This spring challenge is technically a trial run for the organizers.
The goal is to have an annual competition in Cotter.
You'll get bragging rights for participating in the first-ever Cotter Casting Challenge
and some swag donated by the fly-fishing community.

There will be a $5.00 participation fee payable the day of the event. Proceeds will be donated to an access/river project in Cotter.
